Sunday 23rd August 2009

The afternoon Bible Teaching meeting took the form of a discussion on Psalm 51. This was a follow-on from Euan's thoughts last Sunday on Psalm 32. Both Psalms deal with David's repentance for sin and his recovery to fellowship with God.

The evening gospel service was shared by Alasdair and Craig, who was out again for the first time since his recent operation. Alasdair spoke from Matthew's Gospel chapter 11 v28. Craig spoke of how the letter to Philemon is an illustration of the Gospel message.

Sunday 17th August 2009

Craig still recovering from his operation this weekend and Alec Dryburgh from Canada, who we had expected to be with us, suffered a recurrence of an old illness and was briefly in hospital. So we were a bit smaller yesterday.

Ken and Euan shared the afternoon Bible teaching meeting. Ken 'A' took up some mistakes made by people in the Bible and the lessons we should learn from them. Euan spoke from Psalm 32.

The evening gospel service was shared by Ken 'G' and Ken 'A'! Ken 'G' spoke on several examples of 'foolishness' from Psalm 14 v1, Luke 12 v20 and 1 Cor 1 v23. Ken 'A' spoke on the story of Blind Bartimaeus from Mark 10.

Planned Visit

Advance warning of planned Bible Teaching meetings for 25th and 26th August. We expect to have Alec Dryburgh, formerly of this parish but having served the Lord in Canada for 30+ years, and Stanley Wells, an evangelist formerly from Northern Ireland but who has also worked in Canada for many years.

Times have yet to be confirmed, but I would assume 7.30pm.

Sunday 10th August 2009

We were smaller again this weekend with a few families taking their summer break at the end of the school holiday period but we enjoyed a good day yesterday.

In the afternoon Bible Teaching meeting, Bob spoke on 'towers' in the Old Testament. In the evening Gospel service Ken spoke from Genesis 16 on Hagar's words "Thou God seest me" and from Hebrews 4 vs13, "all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do". Willie followed up with a short message relating to the story of the flood in Genesis 9 vs11-15.

Sunday 2nd August 2009

Most people back from holiday now, so the meetings felt quite large yesterday although there are still a few enjoying their summer break.

In the afternoon we were at the Benore Care Home for our monthly service with the elderly residents there. The turnout was the largest we have seen for quite a few months. The old people really enjoyed singing some old-time gospel hymns and choruses following which Euan gave a short gospel message. We really appreciate the support that we get from the staff at Benore in setting up the room for these monthly meetings.

Craig and Euan were responsible for our evening Gospel Service. Craig spoke from John's Gospel chapter 16 vs28 and Euan followed with some thoughts from John's Gospel chapter 17 vs3.
